Vaginal mesh is a surgical treatment for pelvic organ relapse and stress urinary incontinence. More than 100,000 women receive the plastic mesh each year, although the FDA has cautioned that most women with these conditions can be treated without vaginal mesh.
Transvaginal mesh can result in a number of symptoms, including infections, urinary problems, painful sexual intercourse, overall discomfort, and bleeding. These prolbems usually are the result of mesh eroding through the stitched tissue or from skin contracting tightly around the mesh. |
